The modern pressure gauge is based on the 1849 invention of the Bourdon tube by French engineer Eugène Bourdon, a device that allowed for accurate measurement of much higher pressures than previous technologies. The digital pressure gauge stems from advancements in electronics and pressure sensing technology particularly with the development of piezoelectric crystals and microprocessors.
